Berco Consulting is a service orientated professional Quantity Surveying Company located in Rose Bay founded by Richard Cohen and Ian Berson in 2021. Together with dedicated staff, we offer extensive experience across a wide variety of sectors, specialising in high-end residential homes/apartments, mixed-use developments and commercial projects across Sydney and regional NSW.

With both Richard and Ian having previously been founders of major national Australian QS firms, they have consistently helped some of Australia’s largest and most respected developers, architects and organizations turn their ideas into reality. As such, Berco’s founders have developed themselves into industry leaders amongst the residential sector, with their reputations built on long term relationships, high quality construction cost advice, and consistently delivering reliability throughout the construction process.

Berco’s fast growing team prides itself on a proven track record in providing high quality and precise quantity surveying services with hands-on Director involvement across the project life cycle. Richard Cohen

Founding Director

Richard has over 40 years experience working as a Quantity Surveyor. Richard was a co-founder and director of Heymann-Cohen before merging with DCWC as a director for 7 years. Prior to moving to Australia, Richard also spent over 10 years working in a major Quantity Surveying firm in South Africa.

Richard’s experience spans over 5000 completed projects including high end architectural houses, commercial (shopping centres, office blocks and hotels) and industrial developments, medium and high-density residential projects and private hospitals. 

Liam Goldsmith

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Liam is a Senior Quantity Surveyor whose innovative approach to cost solutions has made him a valued part of the Berco team. He brings a strong commercial perspective and a genuine commitment to excellent client service across every project he takes on.

Liam's experience spans a broad range of sectors, including residential, education, commercial and expert witness work. From early cost planning through to bills of quantities, progress claim assessments and variations, he combines technical rigour with fresh thinking to deliver real cost certainty.

Gavin Marcus

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Gavin is a Senior Quantity Surveyor with over 14 years' experience in cost management and project delivery. Before joining Berco, he managed and delivered large-scale retail, commercial, industrial and healthcare projects across South Africa, Ghana and Nigeria valued in excess of US$750 million, bringing a truly international perspective to the team.

Gavin's expertise spans the full spectrum of quantity surveying, from early cost planning and feasibility studies through to bills of quantities, post contract services, complemented by strong project and development management capabilities. Clients value his disciplined cost control, trusted commercial advice and the lasting relationships he builds on every project.

Ian Berson

Founding Director

Ian has over 40 years of Quantity Surveying experience. Ian was previously a co-founder and a Director of MBM, as well as spending more than 15 years in South Africa and Australia working for major Quantity Surveying firms working on a great variety of projects.

Ian’s experience spans numerous projects in almost every type of construction. Working mainly with Developers and Architects, Ian has worked on every type of building as well as the landscaping, roads and pathways at Sydney Olympic Park for the 2000 Olympics

Harry Koustoubardis

Senior Quantity Surveyor

Since joining the Berco team during its early inception five years ago, Harry has helped shape the practice into what it is today. With deep expertise in the residential market, Harry brings a sharp commercial eye to projects of every scale ranging from single dwelling construction through to multi-unit developments.

Harry’s experience spans the full lifecycle of quantity surveying, from the early cost planning through to bills of quantities, progress claim assessments, variations and expert witness. Client’s value Harry’s thorough and detail driven approach and cost certainty he brings to projects.
